Compost Outreach and Education CoordinatorStart Date:
3/24/2025Compensation: $48,000 - $52,000The Outreach & Education
Coordinator reports to the Compost Project Manager. This person is
primarily responsible for coordinating and delivering education and
outreach in Queens; maintaining and building partnerships with
community compost sites and the FSDO network; leading workshops and
trainings; managing volunteers; overseeing interns, and supporting
compost distribution and other operational events. This person must
track all their activities and efforts and submit data to the
Project Manager in pre-defined quantitative or narrative format as
needed.Responsibilities/Duties
- Develop and teach educational workshops.
- Develop new audiences for outreach and actively cultivate
deeper connections in the community relative to composting and
organics recycling.
- Support QBG public programs and public events, carrying out
strategic outreach to reach new communities.
- Manage and deliver off-site programs inclusive of registration,
promotion, and follow-up.
- Lead coordination with FSDOs, community compost sites, and
community partners to execute technical assistance efforts through
info tabling, outreach presentations, educational training, and
material distribution.
- Work closely with the Compost Project Manager to train and
support interns and volunteers.
- Maintain supply of educational and outreach materials provided
by Queens Botanical Garden.
- Ensure upkeep of bins, signage, and active compost vessels at
QBG's Compost Demonstration Site.
- Assist in managing the Compost Helpline, email inquiries, and
the QBG Compost Instagram Page.
- Develop the monthly compost newsletter with the Compost Project
Manager.
- Ability to step in and directly assist the Compost Site
Coordinator with tasks such as processing and ensuring efficient
site operations as needed.
- Support the team as needed and/or directed by the Compost
Project Manager.Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience in a related
field.
- Experience teaching.
- Strong public speaking skills; able to lead workshops,
trainings, and presentations in an informal setting with a large
group of volunteers.
- Effective administrative and organizational skills (inclusive
of Excel, MS Word, Outlook, Slack, and Zoho forms).
- Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
- Well-versed in urban composting practices.
- Experience with farming and/or woodworking is a plus.
- Enthusiastic in expanding knowledge.
- Comfortable with graphic design and social media management
tools.
- Confident taking photographs to document events, activities,
and outreach efforts for use in promotions and reporting.
- Proven ability to address and resolve challenges proactively in
a thoughtful way.
- A valid Class D or above New York State Motor Vehicle Driver's
License.
- Extensive knowledge of safety protocols is required.
- OSHA-certified preferred.Additional InformationSchedule:This is
a full-time, non-exempt position with weekly on-site work. The

savings plans. Schedule is generally from Sunday through Thursday,
with occasional Saturday and evenings depending on program needs.
This position is funded through June 30, 2025, with renewal
