Title: Managing Energy Engineer, Local Law 87Position Summary:
The Managing Energy Engineer for Local Law 87 (LL87) is responsible
for overseeing the quality, delivery, and compliance of LL87
services. This role entails managing the LL87 team within the
Energy Engineering and Auditing Team, ensuring project timelines
are met, maintaining client relationships, and driving process
improvements. The Managing Energy Engineer plays a crucial role in
energy audits, retro-commissioning, and promoting energy and
carbon-saving initiatives for complex multifamily and commercial
facilities, leveraging their expertise in building HVAC, domestic
hot water, process loads, lighting, and envelope systems.Principal
Accountabilities:Team & Project Management:
- Lead and manage the LL87 team, overseeing workflows, project
assignments, and timelines to ensure successful project
execution.
- Provide daily guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to
Energy Engineers, Auditors, and support staff.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all aspects of LL87
requirements (including the Law, Rules, DOB notices, guides, etc.)
and deliverables.
- Collaborate with Accounting, Directors, and other teams to
ensure the Project Tracking system is updated, and all invoicing is
current.
- Generate proposals for potential projects, aligning them with
client needs, company initiatives, and timelines.
- Support the hiring and training of new team members, including
developing interview processes and recruitment strategies.
- Collaborate with the Training Team to update and maintain
training curricula for the team.
- Provide performance feedback and proactively address any team
issues to maintain high productivity and morale.Quality Assurance &
Compliance:
- Ensure all projects adhere to LL87 regulations, including
Department of Buildings (DOB) notices and guidelines.
- Ensure all projects comply with ASHRAE Level II Energy Audit
standards and ANSI-NEBB Technical Retro-Commissioning
standards.
- Conduct regular check-ins with engineers and staff to ensure
quality control and compliance with deadlines and regulatory
requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for LL87-related
compliance, deliverables, and queries with the DOB, along with LL87
Administrative team members.
- Stay current on relevant legislation by attending industry
events, webinars, and meetings as needed.Energy Audits &
Retro-Commissioning:
- Lead complex energy audits and retro-commissioning efforts,
identifying energy-saving measures and providing cost-benefit
financial analyses.
- Utilize rebate and financial initiatives to support project
implementation and energy reduction goals.
- Prepare and deliver clear, actionable reports and summaries for
clients, including building owners, management companies, and
staff, attending meetings as necessary.
- Maintain strong client relationships by effectively
communicating energy and carbon reduction plans, updates, and
findings.
- Coordinate with senior management to develop strategic
initiatives and ensure successful project outcomes.Process
Improvement & Resource Management:
- Drive continuous process improvements by managing templates,
overseeing LL87 content, and maintaining internal systems (e.g.,
Database/CRM, automation tools).
- Ensure team and project data is accurately reflected in
databases, and manage LL87-related communications and emails.
- Work with senior leadership to align strategies, improve
workflows, and meet performance goals.
- Manage and oversee the LL87 content and organization of the
EE&A Team Site.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Job
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental
science/studies, or relevant technical field experience.
- At least 7 years of continuous experience in the energy sector,
specifically in energy audits, retro-commissioning, and financial
analysis of energy-saving measures.
- In-depth knowledge of LL87 requirements and energy efficiency
practices, with a minimum of 3 years working on LL87 projects.
- Experience managing teams and complex projects in a fast-paced
environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to
work effectively with clients and senior management.
- Proficiency in managing databases, project management tools,
and CRM systems.
- Advanced understanding of energy efficiency concepts, HVAC
systems, and renewable energy systems.
- Multifamily Building Analyst (MFBA), Certified Energy Manager
(CEM), or equivalent certification.
- Certified as OSHA-10 prior to or within 6 months of
employment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking,
sitting for extended periods, reading and recording information on
forms and screens, using hand tools, lifting and carrying up to 25
pounds, navigating small/enclosed spaces, climbing stairs and
ladders, and working in loud, warm, and cold environments.
- Travel primarily within New York City.Required Personal
