Job Description:
The Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) is the national
convener of Jewish coalitions working to build a just and inclusive
American democracy. For 80 years, JCPA has brought together
national and local organizations and built bridges across
communities to address the most pressing issues of the day and set
strategies for advocacy and mobilization.JCPA recently announced
its new strategic focus, building on its long legacy and
recognizing that Jewish safety is inextricably linked with the
safety of other communities and a strong, inclusive, and
pluralistic democracy. This work is more urgent than ever in the
face of an unprecedented crisis of antisemitism and broader hate
and extremism, including direct attacks on our democracy.The
Director of Communications will lead JCPA's strategic
communications efforts to enhance the organization's visibility,
promote its mission, and effectively engage diverse audiences. This
role requires a dynamic and innovative communicator with a deep
understanding of new and legacy media, public affairs, media
relations, and the Jewish communal landscape.Primary
responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy -
including digital engagement, earned/paid media, and advocacy -
that effectively amplifies the organization's initiatives and
impact.
- Oversee the creation of compelling content across various
platforms, including press releases, op-eds, newsletters, social
media, and the JCPA website. Ensure consistency in messaging and
branding.
- Oversee the creation of print and digital collateral to support
other verticals within the organization, including community
relations, public affairs, development, and advocacy.
- Lead the organization's digital presence, including website
management and social media engagement, to effectively reach and
engage target audiences.
- Engage with key stakeholders, including partner organizations,
community leaders, and policymakers, to advance JCPA's
communications objectives.
- In concert with external consultants, cultivate and maintain
relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to
secure coverage of JCPA's work. Manage press inquiries and
coordinate interviews.
- Serve as a key thought partner to senior leadership to develop
and drive organizational strategy and messaging.
- Supervise and mentor one Communications Associate.
- Directly manage external vendors, including communications and
digital consultants.Skills and Qualifications:
- At least eight to ten years' experience in communications,
nonprofit, government, politics, and/or advocacy, with a proven
track record in strategic communication planning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the
ability to craft compelling narratives and messaging for diverse
audiences.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms,
including content management systems and social media.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
and work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Passionate about the values and priorities at the core of
JCPA's work, including democracy and pluralism.Compensation and

- This position will be based in New York City or Washington,
D.C. It will require some travel and limited evening and weekend
work dependent on breaking news and events and programming.
- The compensation range for this role is $125,000 to $145,000
commensurate with experience, plus full benefits that include
health, dental, and life insurance and a retirement plan.To apply,
