Schools (NYCPS) has outlined a bold vision to reimagine the
educational experience for all New York City Public School students
, so they graduate with real - world skills and experience, a
headstart on postsecondary, and a strong plan to put them on a path
to a rewarding career and long-term economic security.The Office of
Student Pathways (Pathways ), under the leadership of the Chief of
Student Pathways , is tasked with driving towards the
administration's bold vision to reimagine the student experience
through Career-Connected Learning (CCL) so that by 2030: 100% of
NYCPS students will enter high school with skills in financial
literacy and computational thinking and having explored careers of
interest:
- 100% of NYCPS graduates will have foundational skills for
career readiness, computer science , and financial literacy, a
strong plan , and early college credits/career credentials;
and
- 100,000 NYCPS high schoolers will have in-depth experiences in
career-connected pathways, including internships or
apprenticeships, in high growth, high opportunity fields.The Deputy
Executive Director, FutureReadyNYC, will drive transformative
change to achieve this vision system wide with a focus commitment
to activate student passion and purpose by providing every public
high school student with access to high quality career connected
learning. The position will lead efforts of the Career-Connected
Pathways which represent exemplary career connected learning, by
integrating essential elements for successful college and career
outcomes driven by strong school leadership teams focused on
systems building committed to long-term economic security for each
student and each graduate.The incumbent will be an exceptional
leader who will manage the team that will build effective career
pathways for equity, impact and scale. Performs related work.Key
Relationships : Chief of Student Pathways; works closely with the
Mayor's Office, the Chancellor's Office the Office of Student
Pathways leadership, and related offices within the Division of
Teaching and Learning, Superintendents, Division of Instructional
and Information Technology (DIIT), and the Fund for Public
School.Reports to: Executive Director, Career Connected
LearningDirect Reports: Senior Director, Career Readiness and
Modern Youth Apprenticeships; Senior Director, Career Connected
Instruction; Senior Director, FutureReadyNYC; Directors of
Healthcare Pathway; Tech Pathways ; Business Pathway; and
Education, Community & Social Service; Associate Director, Project
& Data Management; Coordinator, FutureReadyNYC Green
PathwayResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership and Implementation
- Develop and oversee the execution and equitable scaling of
FutureReadyNYC, ensuring alignment with the broader goals of Career
Connected Learning and NYC Public Schools.
- Ensure robust delivery of evidence-based components in an
integrated manner to constitute the FutureReadyNYC student
experience including instruction, work-based learning, early
college credits and credentials, financial literacy and
personalized advising.
- Lead the execution and integration of Career Readiness and
Modern Youth Apprenticeships to serve 3000 students with
pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships by 2030.
- Lead the integration of FutureReadyNYC with Career and
Technical Education and alternative school models including
transfer schools, district 75, international schools and sites for
shared instruction.
- Co-lead development and implementation of career connected
instruction for the CCL portfolio of schools.Partnership
Development
- Work cross functionally with Pathways leads to build and
sustain partnerships with higher education institutions, employers,
workforce development intermediaries and community-based
organizations to support program delivery.
- Represent FutureReadyNYC at events, conferences, and meetings
to advocate for career-connected learning.
- Manage vendor relationships, creating and implementing work
plans and providing critical input on analysis and citywide
career-connected pathway expansion plans and systems
development.Program and Resource Management
- Oversee a multi-million-dollar program budget, ensuring
responsible allocation of resources and alignment with program
objectives.
- Develop and implement systems to track program outcomes,
including student engagement and completion, credential attainment,
and workforce readiness metrics.
- Ensure equitable access to programming for all students, with a
focus on underserved populations.Team Leadership and Capacity
Building
- Supervise and mentor a team of senior directors, directors and
support staff, fostering a collaborative and results-driven
culture.
- Develop and deploy a system of support for school leaders and
educators to effectively deliver career-connected learning
experiences.
- Support change management efforts to align internal teams,
schools and stakeholders with transformative change that underpins
preparing students for strong careers and long-term economic
security.Data-Driven Decision Making
- Use data and analytics to assess program impact, identify areas
for improvement, and inform strategic planning.
- Develop and present reports to senior leadership, stakeholders,
and funders to demonstrate program effectiveness .Build
Relationships and Effective Communications
- Clearly articulate vision through data and storytelling and
finds common ground across diverse internal and external
stakeholders while transparently communicating roles and
responsibilities.
- Build trust, foster collaboration, ensure inclusivity and
understanding across cultural and professional contexts.
- Develop effective communication channels that foster a sense of
community across schools leading this work while serving to track
progress and execution towards robust student outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement and build a culture of
growth.Qualification Requirements:Minimum
- A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
in public administration, business administration, education
administration, personnel administration, management or a related
field and four years of satisfactory, responsible, full-time
experience in any of the above areas or in another area of
specialization applicable to the position, at least 18 months of
which must have been in an administrative, consultative, managerial
or executive capacity; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However,
all candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative,
consultative, managerial or executive experience as described
above.Plus
- Seven-plus years of senior project leadership experience and/or
a demonstrated knowledge and expertise of issues related to college
and career readiness, transition and success, particularly for
low-income and minority young people .
- Supervisory experience working with educational program
administrators and instructors .
- Demonstrated commitment to equitable outcomes for all students
and a track record of advancing this goal through your professional
work .
- Deep experience and expertise in culturally
responsive/sustaining ways of working .
- Wide experience working with education clients, including
schools, districts, state and federal agencies, policymakers,
colleges and universities, and businesses and community
organizations .
- Expertise in career and technical education, postsecondary
success, and/or workforce education .
- Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to
develop and manage multi-million - dollar contracts and
budgets.Preferred
- Experience in the private sector or building relationships with
employers and higher education.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with education and
non-education personnel, internal and external to the NYCPS.
- Ability to think strategically and translate insights into
action; project management experience.
- Ability to organize facts and present information and figures
in a clear, concise and logical manner, both spoken and
written.
- Creative problem-solver with the ability to perform
independent, thoughtful analysis around important educational
issues.
- Knowledge of the programs and philosophy of the NYCPS.
- Experience in managing and maintaining city, state and federal
relationships .
- Ability to conduct and/or oversee policy and engagement
execution on difficult, complex, and sensitive issues affecting
public education.
- Competencies in Strategic Vision and Leadership, collaboration
and partnership development, program management and execution,
systems thinking and data-driven decision-making, and
equity-focused leadership.(Internal candidates who are selected for
