As an independent clinical provider and utilizing the clinical team as a resource, the NP provides expert clinical care to a designated population of patients providing services but not limited to:

  • Performs a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that includes assessing current psychiatric symptoms and past psychiatric history, the psychosocial and physical health status, evaluation of mental status, current and past history of violence, suicidal or self-harm behavior, substance use, level of functioning, health behaviors, trauma, and social and developmental history.
  • Documents any psychiatric, behavioral, substance abuse and active medical problems on the
  • Problem List and Comprehensive Treatment Plan as per policy
  • Develops a differential diagnosis derived from the collection and synthesis of assessment data.
  • Consults with other members of the interdisciplinary team to determine, evaluate, and plan treatment goals/objectives,
  • Updates and completes the Treatment Plan Review as needed after the completion of the
  • Comprehensive Treatment Plan and/or whenever there is a significant change in the patient's condition or treatment.
  • Records patient's status and progress of care rendered, and plan for future care and therapeutic interventions appropriate to the patient's needs.
  • Counsels and guides patients, their families, and/or significant others relating to physical health, psychiatric treatment, and progress,
  • Request appropriate laboratory tests within established protocols, and interprets findings of relevant diagnostic and laboratory tests.
  • Prescribes and adjusts medication within established protocols, and follows such medication(s) interventions as appropriate
  • Manages psychiatric emergencies by determining the level of risk and initiating and coordinating effective emergency care.
  • Serves as team leader in psychiatric crisis situations.
  • Ensures that a patient Behavioral/Safety Plan is in place for all patients, and that team members are aware of and consider patient preferences in responding to a crisis.
  • Consults with the physician, as appropriate, for evaluation of findings of the psychiatric and health screening in order to make prospective decisions about treatment.
  • Ensures the timely and appropriate management of a patient's medical problems by communicating with patient's PCP
  • Participate in the different training/In-services conducted by the department or the facility/network.
  • Participate in the different QA issues in the department/facility (i.e.: Peer Review, etc.)
  • Complete patient correspondence (i.e.: forms or letters upon request).
  • Fosters good Customer Service in daily activities when dealing with patients, parents, (significant others).
  • Maintains Patient Safety and Infection Control techniques.
  • Follows corporate & hospital regulations, policies, & procedures.
  • Addresses patients, visitors and co-workers in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Maintains a professional working relationship with other health care professionals.
  • Operates equipment and performs job related duties in a safe manner.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate action to eliminate hazards and prevent recurrences.
  • Work to provide comprehensive, personalized care for all New Yorkers and commit to providing a person-centered care environment while exemplifying ICARE (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence) values.Minimum Qualifications
    • A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and
    • Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED; and
    • Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).Department PreferencesCertification(s)/License(s)QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:
      • Psychiatric-Mental Health NP (PMHNP)
      • Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support ( BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA)Educational Level
        • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
        • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited program.
        • Active professional license as a NP in the state of New York.
        • Board certification or board eligibility in appropriate clinical specialty.
