selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors,

posting.Position SummaryThe Department of Anesthesiology at
Columbia University Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated
full-time ACNP/AGACNP or a FNP to work in the Anesthesiology Pain
Treatment Service. The provider will serve as a member of a newly
established acute pain management service at the NYP Allen Hospital
with some coverage of the existing acute pain service at Columbia
University Medical Center - Milstein campus. The primary
responsibilities will be to provide initial consultation and
follow-up for in-patients with acute pain management needs, as
consulted by primary providers throughout the hospital. Typical
patients will include complex spine surgery patients, general and
orthopedic surgery patients, and medical patients with acute pain
needs. NPs will report to the Director of Acute Pain Services for
administrative purposes including scheduling, quality improvement,
and continuing education.ResponsibilitiesCLINICAL
- Follow-up on clinical management and assessment of inpatients
cared for by the Pain Service.
- Collection of clinical data.
- Perform daily rounds and follow-ups on inpatients referred to
the pain service as directed.
- Assist with procedures on inpatients cared for by the pain
service.
- Education of patients and their families regarding
analgesia.
- Educate and assist the nursing staff in planning, implementing,
and evaluating care of patients cared for by the pain service.
- Provide continuity of care for patients throughout the duration
of their treatment by the pain service.
- Provide in-service education and training for the nursing staff
as needed. This will include presentations in the nursing
Continuing Education workshops.
- Participate and assist with coordination of pain management
Quality Assurance at NYPH.Scope Of Practice
- Obtain and record a problem oriented health history of acute
pain patients, when it is indicated.
- Carry out and document physical exams with assessment of normal
and abnormal findings related to body systems based on Departmental
and University Compliance Plans.
- Develop problem lists and plans for diagnostic, therapeutic and
teaching aspects of care.
- Determine and refer the problems that need to be addressed by a
physician.
- Manage Pain Service patients collaboratively with the
attendings on a daily basis as set forth by the Departmental
Compliance Plan.
- Follow up on requests by attendings for evaluation of
diagnostic studies as indicated by the clinical condition of the
patient.
- Follow-up with patients on physical and emotional reactions to
drugs and the treatments provided.
- Provide education of patients regarding the effect, side
effects and appropriate use of prescribed drugs.
- A Pain Service Attending Physician will be available to answer
any questions the nurse practitioner may have.Minimum
QualificationsMinimum education:
- Master of Science in NursingMinimum Related Experience
- 3 years nursing or related experience.Minimum
Licensing/certifications Required Upon Start Date
- NYS RN and NP Licenses and ANCC Board Certification.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS (if applicable) Certification
- DEA CertificationAdditional Minimum Qualifications
- An interest in working with acute pain patients and their
families as well as the ability to do so.
- Demonstrated ability to function independently in a
collaborative setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively and productively with a diverse
group of physicians, nurses and other health care professionals at
