The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based
on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental
budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses,
specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the
University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of
possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Division of Gynecologic Specialty Surgery in the Department of
Obstetrics and Gynecology of Columbia University Medical Center is
comprised of 10 physicians, 3 fellows, and 3 nurse practitioners
practicing in two unique sections: Minimally Invasive Gynecologic
Surgery and Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery
(Urogynecology). We provide comprehensive gynecologic care,
exploring different diagnostic and treatment options to treat and
manage Gynecologic and Urogynecologic problems, from fibroids to
incontinence. Our providers work with each patient to design an
individualized care management plan, from routine testing to the
most advanced diagnosis and treatment for women of all ages. We are
looking for a Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team, providing
outstanding care for our patients This role will report directly to
the Division Administrator of Gynecologic Specialty Surgery
Responsibilities
Administrative/Operations
- Work closely with the Division Administrator, Site Managers,
Director of Outpatient Operations, Medical Director of Outpatient
Practices, and Clinical Nurse Director ensuring all competencies
and clinical responsibilities are completed accurately
- Works closely with the Division Administrator, Nurse
Practitioners and Practice Supervisors in regards to administrative
matters
- Executes nursing interventions by collaborating with the care
team and following the standards of care established by the
Division of Gynecologic Specialty Surgery
- The Clinical Coordinator / RN will assist physicians in all
treatments and procedures, perform preoperative patient interviews
and assessments including pre-op instructions, post-operative
patient care and instructions, prepare and administer prescribed
medications and treatment in accordance with standards.
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for effectively
managing nursing care of individual patients
- Observe, report and record patient's condition, reaction to
drugs and treatment, compile and record all patient laboratory
information
- Assist physicians during clinical procedures, and department
specific therapies
- Obtain prior authorizations for medications
- Complete FMLA and Disability paper work
- Record patient histories and vital signs, venipuncture,
injections and collect/prep specimens.
- Monitor use and ordering of equipment, surgical instruments and
supplies.
- Triage calls and advise appropriate clinicians when
necessary.
- Assist in improving and maintaining the existing laboratory and
pathology tracking system.
- Maintain precise records of all specimens obtained and sent for
testing.
- Ensure all medications and injections are logged and accounted
for.
- Track and monitor risk management incidents, medication errors
and other patient safety issues.
- Participates in performance improvement activities and staff
education.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Participate in recruitment of clinical staff
- Serve as a mentor and resource to others
Compliance
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality according to HIPAA
requirements at all times.
- Keep current on all organizational and practice policies (e.g.,
infection control, HIPAA), goals, initiatives, and required
trainings
- Ensure that University and Department policies and procedures
are followed.
- Successfully complete all required university, hospital, and
department trainings
- Other duties as assigned within professional scope of
practice/training/education
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and
experience, plus four years of related experience.
- Must have a current New York State Registered Nurse License and
maintain and renew as necessary.
- BLS certified.
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to
communicate effectively with a diverse audience of peers,
management, and other stakeholders. Must have highly developed
interpersonal skills and ability to deescalate stressful
situations.
- Must be an engaged and positive team member demonstrating
collaboration, inclusion, reliability, punctuality, and
adaptability to new and changing situations including helping peers
adapt to new situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years outpatient OB/GYN clinical experience
- Surgical outpatient clinical experience
