Brooklyn YMCA is seeking a Youth Coach/Trainer who will be
responsible for leading a group or team of children/teens and
progressive skill development in a designated sport. The Youth
Coach/Trainer will promote the enjoyment of sports while improving
physical competence, developing confidence, and teaching healthy
competition and skill development. The overall major functions of
the Youth Coach/Trainer also include:
- Provide a fun, safe, and positive experience for all
participants.
- Demonstrate strong service and hospitality with all
constituents, including, but not limited to, program participants
and parents/guardians.
- Create an all-inclusive and supportive learning
environment.
- Teach progressive lessons and provide opportunities to
demonstrate learned skills.
- Encourage a lifetime of participation in sports and physical
activity.
- Coach games that allow for equal playing time.
- Be responsible for the team equipment.
- Work to establish and improve group unity and spirit.
- Be available for the program on Saturday evenings.
- Embody the YMCA Core Values.Key Responsibilities:
- Work with the Supervisor to develop program objectives, goals,
and logistics.
- Schedule team practices and games during Saturday Night Lights
(SNL) Teen Center hours in collaboration with Teen Advisors.
- Create written plans for all practices that are age-appropriate
and progressive, as needed.
- Provide supervision of the players to ensure safety and
engagement.
- Be able to modify and adapt coaching styles to meet the needs
of the participants.
- Emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship over winning and the
outcome of the game.
- Teach rules and fundamentals and enhance basic skills.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding schedules.
- Communicate with parents/guardians about additional YMCA
opportunities that can benefit them and/or their child/teen.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding the progress of
their child/teen and registration.
- Ensure that all equipment is age-appropriate, safe, and in
proper working condition. This includes conducting scheduled
equipment safety checks.
- Work with the Supervisor to develop and lead program promotion
and recruitment efforts.
- When applicable, provide direction to volunteers or Teen
Advisors who are supporting the program.
- Inform the Manager on Duty (MOD) regarding any incident reports
that need to be filled out.
- Actively participate in designated meetings, training sessions,
and special events.
- Adhere to all Saturday Night Lights funding expectations and
requirements.
- Keep a safe and clean activity space.Desired Skills &
Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience coaching children/teens
sports in a structured setting. Experience working with teens in a
group setting.
- Coaching license in the respective sport preferred.
- Current First Aid/CPR certifications.
- Must attend the YMCA Coaching 101 Training within ninety (90)
days of hire.
- Must receive the CDC HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports
certificate within thirty (30) days of hire.
- Must receive the Child Abuse Prevention certificate within
thirty (30) days of hire.
- Passion for youth development and knowledge of youth
development stages.
- Content expert in the designated sport(s).
- In-depth knowledge of sporting strategies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with members of all
ages.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be available to work Saturday evenings.Benefits:The YMCA
