Description
This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the
Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of
Postdoctoral Research Scientist is an exciting one. Columbia
University Irving Medical Center, one of the nation's foremost

funding.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases Program (PI: Dr. Bailey)
seeks an eligible Postdoctoral Research Scientist to work on a
full-time basis. Our laboratory uses advanced techniques in mouse
genetics, 3D organoid culture systems generated from human samples
and mouse tissue as well as human pluripotent stem cells to
investigate molecular mechanisms of reactive epithelial changes in
pediatric eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and associated
diseases.
The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will have
responsibilities:
- To contribute to the program through research accomplishments,
personal growth and interaction with others.
- The ideal candidate is a published expert in stem cell and
epithelial cell biology, human development and disease, and has
considerable experience in designing and conducting research
experiments/projects.
- Within the predetermined research scope and methodology,
conducts research in understanding the pathophysiology of pediatric
eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and discovering novel biomarkers and
drug targets for EoE and associated diseases.
- Formulates research hypotheses, designs and conducts
experiments, implements statistical analyses for the successful
completion of related research projects.
- Participates in weekly work meetings and works in a collegial
and cooperative manner with the PI and other co-workers.
- Understands current scientific literature and acts as a
scientific resource to the group.
- Assists PI in providing supervision and guidance to students
and trainees in the group on their academic activities.
- Writes peer-review articles, presents at scientific meetings,
and assists PI with grant applications and progress
reports.
- Plays an active role in seeking career and research advice,
both from the PI and from other faculty members as
appropriate.
- Maintains a positive relationship with the research team,
clinical staff, and acts as a wet lab research resource.
- Provides support to wet lab staff to ensure research is
successfully implemented, including maintaining an on-site
presence, answering questions, and reporting successes and
roadblocks to the research team.
- Help facilitate multidisciplinary and multi-site research as
needed.
- Performs related duties & responsibilities as
assigned/requested.
Qualifications
- Must have a doctorate degree (M.D. or Ph.D.
- Published expertise in stem cell biology, human development and
disease, epithelial cell biology and/or immunology.
- Skills in molecular-cell biology, mouse genetics, culture of
primary cells and organoids, immunofluorescence/confocal
microscopy, RNA sequencing and single cell analysis approaches.
Candidates with experience in informatics and flow cytometry are
strongly encouraged to apply, although these are not
requirements.
