$18 / hourJob SummaryThe After School Group Leader is responsible
for the overall safety, development, management, organization and
planning of their group. This includes integrated educational
projects, recreation, arts and crafts and group building
activities.Major Duties
- Overall supervision and management of identified group of
participants.
- Engage participants in after school activities and role model
appropriate behavior.
- Ensure safety of participants at all times.
- Engage in outreach activities to ensure attendance and
participation.
- Provide support to activity instructors and other group
leaders.
- Develop and facilitate a sequenced and thematic curriculum and
other various activities including arts & crafts, promoting
creativity, self-expression, emotional growth, and career
exploration.
- Integrate lessons enriched with literacy, history and other
academic subjects when applicable.
- Develop positive relationships with participants, colleagues
and school/center personnel.
- Attend all staff meetings and staff development training
sessions, as specified (including Saturday and evening
trainings).
- Assist with monitoring and maintaining the rules of the program
and upholding the afterschool model.
- Plan and prepare culminating events for participants to
showcase their activities.
- Ensure participants can illustrate what they learned in
culminating events.
- Assist with organizing parent family culminating engagement
events.
- Engage with parents and guardians in a professional
manner.
- Discuss behavior problems, safety concerns and situations with
supervisor as they emerge, completing necessary documentation and
paperwork.
- Act as a Mandated Reporter.
- Resolve conflict within your group while seeking assistance
from staff, supervisors and directors when necessary.
- Foster a positive youth development approach, focusing on a
strength-based environment, fostering a sense of belonging,
independence, mastery, safety, and community.
- Supervise support staff assigned to your group (including but
not limited to assistant group leader, interns, volunteers,
etc.).
- Track and support participants' development and growth areas,
engaging and facilitating group conversations, tracking academic
success.
- Responsible for the safe arrival and dismissal of all program
participants.
- Inspect all facilities, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they
are secured at the end of each day.
- Available to work during holidays and OST days (13-15
days).
- Maintain all required records for your group, including
attendance.
- Maintain strict adherence to policies and procedures at all
times.
- Participate in afterschool events and trips.
- Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications
- High School/ GED Diploma and 2 years related experience in
leading and participating in youth group development related
activities required.
- Experience building a camp culture through chants, team
building activities, and community building preferred.
- Ability to contribute a talent or experience in arts, music,
crafts, etc. is a plus.
- Commitment to working with youth from a variety of backgrounds,
providing high quality services.
- Commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family
development and trauma-informed perspective.
