College, founded in 1966, is a center of academic excellence in the
heart of Jamaica, Queens. One of the eleven senior colleges in The
City University of New York, the College's mission is to enrich

passionate and engaged learners.York's academic programs are housed
in three schools: The School of Arts & Sciences, The School of
Business and Information Systems, and The School of Health Sciences
and Professional Programs. Over sixty baccalaureate programs from
across a variety of disciplines provide students with opportunities
to study liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs. The
College also offers six graduate programs.The College's 50-acre
campus encompasses seven buildings, including science and computer
labs, music and television studios, a Performing Arts Center, and a
Health and Physical Education Center.The ACE senior academic
advisor is a member of an integrated team providing individual
academic, career and related support to an assigned group of
program students. Reporting to the ACE director, the academic
advisor is responsible for providing advisement services to their
cohort of students, with the goal of retaining the maximum number
of students each semester and graduating a minimum of 50% of each
student cohort.Duties and responsibilities include but are not
limited to:
- Deliver comprehensive advisement support services to an
assigned group of students through degree completion.
- Utilize campus degree maps to create semester by semester
academic plans for students.
- Consistently review student progress and provide timely
interventions.
- Enter/document/track all student contact in ACE program and/or
college student database.
- Run student contact queries/reports consistently to determine
outreach needed.
- Conduct workshops and group advisement on relevant
topics.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree and four years' related
experience required. Preferred - Master's degree in relevant fields
may be substituted for 2 years' experience.The ideal candidate will
have:
- Experience providing guidance and support to students.
- Strong understanding of the educational needs of diverse urban
students.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate student records.
- Demonstrated skill in understanding and respecting cultural
differences.
- Knowledge of equitable and inclusive advisement practices.
- Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office; aptitude to
learn new systems.
- Strong organization, collaboration, communication, and

- Monitors students' performances and resolves curricular
issues.
- Develops academic plans and performs graduation audits.
- Provides information on student support services and college

- Establishes and maintains student advisement files.
