Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and highly technical Data
Architect with 7+ years of experience to lead the design and
integration of enterprise-wide data systems. The ideal candidate
will have hands-on expertise with Microsoft Visual Studio, SQL
Server Data Tools (SSDT), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS),
ER/Studio or Erwin, and Power BI.

This role will architect and support the integration of data
between legacy and modern distributed systems for the New York City
Department of Education (NYCDOE) by developing interfaces and
ensuring the successful flow of information between transactional
databases and data warehousing layers. The Data Architect will also
define and manage the ETL technical infrastructure, development
standards, and ensure high-quality data practices across the
organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Architect and support the integration of data across multiple
source systems, including legacy and distributed platforms.
Design, implement, and maintain ETL pipelines supporting the full
lifecycle of staging, Operational Data Store (ODS), Data Marts, and
Enterprise Data Warehouse (DWH) environments.
Utilize Microsoft Visual Studio and SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) to
manage ETL packages and development workflows.
Develop and manage data modeling activities using tools like
ER/Studio or Erwin to define and maintain conceptual, logical, and
physical data models.
Define and enforce data architecture standards, naming conventions,
and documentation practices.
Oversee and maintain technical infrastructure for ETL, including
tools, deployment frameworks, and version control.
Collaborate with stakeholders and business analysts to gather
requirements and translate them into scalable, sustainable data
architectures.
Design and build advanced Power BI reports and dashboards by
sourcing data from structured warehouse models.
Provide architectural guidance and mentorship to developers and
analysts to ensure consistency and best practices.
Support the implementation of data governance, quality control, and
master data management strategies.
Monitor system performance, optimize data integration processes,
and proactively troubleshoot issues.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or
related field.
7+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or
enterprise ETL environments.
Strong expertise in: Microsoft Visual Studio and SQL Server Data
Tools (SSDT), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for reporting
and data validation, ER Studio or Erwin for enterprise data
modeling, Power BI for dashboard creation and analytics
visualization
Proven experience designing and implementing full ETL lifecycle
across staging, ODS, data marts, and enterprise data
warehouses.
Deep understanding of data integration best practices, performance
tuning, and metadata management.
Strong SQL and T-SQL skills, with experience in complex data
transformations.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication
skills.
Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and security
frameworks.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Experience working in large-scale public sector or education
environments, especially NYC DOE.
Knowledge of cloud data services (e.g., Azure Synapse, Azure Data
Factory, AWS Redshift).
Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and version control tools
like Git or Azure DevOps.
Certification in Data Architecture, Microsoft SQL, or BI tools is a
plus.
