The Amalgamated Foundation is redefining philanthropy by
empowering activism, harnessing generosity, and leveraging
technology to build new pathways to move resources quickly and
strategically to the frontlines of social change. Since launching
in 2018, the Foundation has given away $500 million and built a
strong network of partners across the sector. With a goal of
reaching $1 billion contributed by 2026, the Foundation is focused
on leveling up for sustainable future growth and increasing its
ability to seed, convene, and build movements.To support their
growth trajectory, the Foundation is seeking nominations and
applications for their inaugural Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
This seasoned CFO will play an instrumental role in helping shape
the Foundation's next chapter, leading the financial and investment
management functions of the organization. They will act as a
strategic and business partner with the leadership team, helping
the team provide greater clarity and insight into the Foundation's
business model, weigh opportunities, and represent the financial
perspective in big-picture strategic conversations. This will
include providing key strategic acumen around how the Foundation
can diversify its financial structures in the service of moving
capital more flexibly, as well as providing long-term
sustainability for the Foundation. They will bring entrepreneurial
energy to this nontraditional CFO role, building innovative
financial strategies, systems, and processes to support the
Foundation's evolving business model and its ambitious growth
trajectory. This role will require the CFO to forecast, adapt, and
manage diverse revenue streams, including impact investing,
fee-for-service structures, and grantmaking diversification.The
Amalgamated Foundation seeks candidates who are seasoned finance
professionals with experience in scaling organizations and who
bring a broad vision and experience in redistributing capital
innovatively and in alignment with the Foundation's values. They
must have deep comfort navigating ambiguity, leading
collaboratively, and creatively solving complex financial
challenges with a small team.The CFO will report to the CEO, and
they will supervise a growing team, including the Finance Director
and Finance Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic

- Rapid Response Funds - pooling resources to address urgent
natural and civic crises;
- Aligned Capital - Impact investing options; and

next five years, the Foundation is seeking to level up for
sustainable future growth and increase its ability to seed,
convene, and build movements.OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FOR THE
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICERThe CFO will be an entrepreneurial,
adaptive, forward-thinking financial and investment strategist with
the ability to quickly gather and synthesize information for the
leadership team, board, and staff to drive rigorous planning,
forecasting, and decision-making. This role will include the
following responsibilities:Strategic Business & Financial
Leadership and Implementation
- Provide thought partnership to the CEO and leadership team,
proactively addressing issues and strategic opportunities and
making recommendations supported by rigorous financial analysis and
review, scenario modeling, and assessment of returns, risk, and due
diligence. This will include providing strategic advice and counsel
around options for how the organization can diversify financial
structures (e.g., LLCs, 501(c)(4)s) to navigate regulatory
constraints and enable flexibility in capital movement and
long-term sustainability for the Foundation.
- Working closely with the CEO and the leadership team, play a
significant role in monitoring relevant shifts in the marketplace
and identifying opportunities for growth and innovation,
continually assessing and adapting the Foundation's business model,
and developing the systems and practices that will allow the
Amalgamated Foundation to capitalize on opportunities for moving
capital in creative ways.
- Assess and adjust pricing and revenue models to ensure
alignment with both client needs and organizational goals.
- Develop an impact investing portfolio strategy, building out
the new and/or updated policies and accounting structures needed to
support that strategy.
- Enable accountability and effective decision-making by
delivering clear, accurate, and timely performance information to
the Board, leadership, and staff.
- Forecast, adapt, and manage diverse and dynamic revenue
streams, including impact investing, fee-for-service models, and
diversified grantmaking, while strengthening internal capacity to
operationalize these strategies.Finance Department Oversight,
Management, and Organizational Planning
- Develop the vision, strategy, and operational plan for all
functions in the CFO's span of control, establishing goals,
objectives, policies, and procedures in accordance with the
organization's strategic plan and vision for the financial
functions.
- Drive financial modeling and forecasting, ensuring financial
sustainability for major initiatives, programs, and
investments.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to plan and implement
diversification of financial structures (e.g., LLCs, 501(c)(4)s) to
navigate regulatory constraints and enable flexibility in capital
movement and long-term sustainability for the Foundation.
- Steward the day-to-day operations and continuous improvement of
the budgeting, finance and accounting, and related operational
functions, including ensuring effective internal controls and
mechanisms to detect and mitigate risk and protect the organization
from asset losses and internal and external fraud.
- Ensure that the Foundation is in regulatory compliance, manage
financial risks, and provide effective and responsive oversight of
finances, audit, and investment strategies.
- Ensure the capacity of internal teams to meet growing demands
for innovative financial strategies, including recoverable grants
and complex investments.
- Oversee accounting control systems and internal audits, the
accurate and timely production of accounting information and
financial reports, and reporting on financial results and issues to
the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Strengthen internal training and team capacity to ensure
consistent delivery of financial expertise to clients and
stakeholders.
- Establish processes to streamline grant and loan management,
ensuring compliance, transparency, and
sustainability.QualificationsWhile no one candidate will possess
all of the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will be
passionate about the Amalgamated Foundation's mission and bring
many of the following professional and personal abilities,
attributes, and experiences:
- Seasoned and mature leader with at least 12 to 15 years of
significant financial management experience, ideally across
different sectors and/or types of organizations, including
foundations, social enterprises, and mission-aligned entities.
- Advanced degree such as MBA or designation such as CPA or CFA
preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and experience translating a strategic
vision into an operational model that aligns with financial goals,
planning, and analysis.
- Ability to drive decisions in a quickly evolving, dynamic
environment.
- Demonstrated strong financial strategy, forecasting, and
scenario planning capabilities.
- Deep understanding of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) regulations, with
demonstrated success in leveraging philanthropic and investment
capital.
- Familiarity with impact investing, lending, and fund
management, particularly in dynamic and growing organizations.
- Expertise in building and managing adaptive systems to respond
to changing financial landscapes.
- Ability to operationalize innovative business models while
ensuring alignment with organizational values.
- Demonstrated complex auditing experience.
- Skilled in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and
financial reports.
- Proven ability to build and mentor high-performing teams,
fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth in
dynamic environments.
- Skilled in analyzing problems, projecting consequences,
identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.

environment.WORK LOCATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITSWork Location:
This role is remote and can be based anywhere in the United States.
This position will require up to 15% travel, including
participating in approximately 6 in-person meetings a year for
leadership team planning/retreats, full team staff retreats, and
board meetings. There may also be occasional travel to conferences
or other events where the CFO will be representing the Amalgamated
Foundation.Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this
full-time, exempt position is $238,000 - 280,000. A generous
benefits package is also provided through Amalgamated Foundation,
which includes:
