beyond.Position OverviewThe Assistant Principal of Student Services
is dedicated to the premise that every student enrolled in a school
of the Brilla Schools Network has inestimable dignity and worth and
that the life-long path should be open to all. The Assistant
Principal of Student Services is responsible for directing and
facilitating the campus-based support of diverse learners by
ensuring that compliance mandates are met for students receiving
specialized services. The Assistant Principal of Student Services
manages and develops the school-based Student Services Team,
composed of grade-level Learning Specialists, school Social
Workers, Speech Pathologists, and related service providers.
Reporting to the School Principal and network Director of Student
Services, the Assistant Principal of Student Services is directly
responsible for implementing Brilla's Multi-tiered Student Supports
framework, ensuring all federal and state compliance regulations
are met, creating related service providers' schedules and
communicating regularly with outside agencies, managing direct
communication with the Committee for Special Education, and
analyzing school-based and student-based data for interventions.
The Assistant Principal of Student Services is a strategic thinker
and team leader, works diligently and proactively to problem-solve
collaboratively, and inspires and coaches a team of staff to be
high-quality practitioners.Core Competencies & Responsibilities
- Coordinate, administer, and ensure compliance with NYSED
regulations, emphasizing collaboration with the NYC Department of
Education.
- Integrate special education services through collaboration with
school teams.
- Craft and review IEPs to reflect the specific requirements and
ambitions of the student population.
- Oversee annual reviews and reevaluations and ensure timely,
accurate reporting to city and state agencies.
- Monitor and report on the efficacy of the special education
program to school leadership and governance boards.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, counselors, advisors, and
relevant personnel for seamless service provision.
- Lead and facilitate special education meetings, interfacing
with NYC DOE representatives and stakeholders.
- Engage parents, guardians, and the local community to foster a
partnership supporting the unique student population.
- Manage the special education budget, ensuring alignment with
charter guidelines and collaboration with the school's financial
team.
- Stay updated on NYC-specific special education initiatives,
research, and best practices.
- Provide, promote, and participate in professional development
opportunities to keep staff current with special education
practices.
- Lead the development and implementation of best practices as
the Special Education Inclusion Coordinator.
- Ensure student success by working closely with staff, students,
and families, addressing challenges effectively.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant laws and policies
regarding student IEPs and 504s.
- Coordinate with the Committee on Special Education (CSE) for
securing and managing relevant service providers, including
screenings.
- Oversee integrated co-teaching classrooms and support services
personnel.
- Manage the evaluation process, including classroom observations
and testing, and advocate for classroom accommodations.
- Work closely with families in all grades to support student's
academic and social-emotional growth through the IEP process.
- Maintain student records related to special education issues
and prepare reports for regulatory agencies.
- Use standards-based assessment data to refine and differentiate
curriculum and instruction.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, school leaders,
and families to analyze trends in student work samples and
assessments.
- Gather academic growth data and write goals for annual IEP
meetings.
- Provide pull-out, push-in, small group, and one-on-one
instruction, implementing strategies for differentiated
instruction.
- Support enrollment processes and contribute to a Multi-Tiered
System of Support (MTSS).
- Provide coaching and observation for Multilingual Learners
(MLL) Specialists, Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP), and Special
Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS) provided by Learning
Specialists and Behavior Specialists.
- Address student well-being by focusing on social-emotional
needs and fostering a positive school culture.
- Perform Other Duties as Assigned.Qualifications
- Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related
field.
- Possession of current Special Education, ESL, or ELL teaching
certification.
- 3+ years of relevant urban, elementary, or middle teaching
experience with demonstrated student results.
- Administrative certification and 3+ years of leadership
