1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is
one of seven community colleges of the City University of New
York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and
certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training,
ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served
approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our
degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States,
coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three
heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college
students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in
Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree
students receive financial aid. Since forty-five percent of them
identify as Hispanic, the US Department of Education has designated

more.Reporting to the President, the Dean for Institutional
Effectiveness is charged with leading college assessment,
accreditation, operational effectiveness, and continuous
improvement. The Dean responds to internal and external requests
for information; tracks institutional performance against a wide
range of benchmarks; conducts research and analysis to support
planning, enrollment management, program review, and assessment;
and synthesizes and communicates findings. The Dean plays a key
role in the college's strategic planning process, and is
responsible for the colleges Middle States Commission on Higher
Education periodic accreditation, including our Self-Study Report.
The Dean manages the Office of Institutional Research and
Assessment.In addition, the Dean:
- Works collaboratively with college leadership on assessment,
including general institutional effectiveness, the monitoring of
student learning outcomes and career success, and the tracking and
analysis of NYC labor market conditions;
- Provides leadership in establishing a comprehensive,
institution-wide program of self-assessment involving program
review and outcomes assessment; Integrates program review and
outcomes assessment into institutional planning efforts and
reaccreditation processes and reports;
- Designs and oversees the colleges administrative and
educational support units' planning and assessment;
- Designs and administers periodic surveys of students, faculty,
and staff, and analyzes results;
- Conducts research and policy analyses to support to
institutional planning, policy, and decision-making needs across
all divisions of the college;
- Communicates relevant, timely, accurate, and actionable
institutional data to administrators and the college
community;
- Prepares digital, written and oral presentations to communicate
research findings to the college community and external
constituencies;
- Monitors the extent to which research findings are accessed and
used by college constituents in order to ensure broad dissemination
and promote data-driven decision making;
- Works collaboratively with senior communication staff to create
on-going, media-savvy communication of relevant research
findings;
- Provides leadership in identifying and understanding emerging
internal and external issues and significant environmental changes,
representing opportunities and challenges for LaGuardia;
- Maintains compliance of policies and reporting requirements of
external agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Education, the
Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and other
accreditation bodies;
- Provides data and analyses in response to specific requests and
needs of college offices and departments;
- Maintains data sources for information necessary for grant
proposals, summary reports to external funders, and support for
faculty scholarship;
- Administers and analyzes numerous annual nationally-ranked
assessment instruments;
- Prepares annual Institutional Profile;
- Participates in institutional research professional
organizations and keeps abreast of national, state, and local
educational issues;
- Performs other job-related duties as
assigned.QUALIFICATIONSThis position is in CUNY's Executive
Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a
Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.The
successful candidate will demonstrate significant familiarity and
accomplishment with strategic planning, including evaluation of
programs that promote student retention and success. Candidates
should have knowledge that includes methodologies of evaluation,
assessment, survey research, statistics, and data analysis.
Expertise with assessment tools and techniques, survey research
methods, statistical and database management software packages, and
the dynamics of strategic planning and accreditation is
required.Proven understanding of innovative techniques of data
management, analysis, and dissemination across a complex
organization, and success and leading a team of higher education
research experts. Strong organizational skills analytical, and
communication skills, and the ability to work with complex computer
information systems are essential.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSA
Master's degree with at least eight (8) years of related experience
is preferred.CUNY TITLEDeanCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS$150,000 -
